MSFW Services
President Bush proposed to increase funding for Job Corps to $1.5 billion- Job Corps is a public-private partnership that provides job training for disadvantaged youth ages 16 to 24. Bush also proposed to phase out grants for the National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP), which under section 167 of the Workforce Investment Act provides grants to NGOs and government agencies to assist migrant and other seasonally-employed farmworkers and their families to achieve economic self-sufficiency through job training and other related services that address their employment-related needs. This program was formerly authorized by section 402 of JTPA, and the organizations providing MSFW services were known as 402s.
Those eligible to receive NFJP services must apply and be deemed eligible, which requires that they: (1) have been a migrant or seasonal farmworker whose family was disadvantaged during any consecutive 12-month period within the 24-month period preceding application for enrollment; (2) be citizens or nationals of the United States, lawfully admitted permanent resident aliens, or be residing in the US under other legal immigrant status granting employment authorization; and (3) if male, have registered with the Selective Service.
